Tattoos are perhaps the most popular way for young people to make a style statement. A few years back, the tattooing arena was quite small, with common patterns and the inscription of names being the only designs or the most popular designs. However, there has been a significant change in the styles and tattooing techniques that have given tattoo enthusiasts as well as designers a bigger platform. Tattoos have also become unique.

Style, they say, is something unique/ special/ personal to every individual and everyone has personality traits or a certain lifestyle that they want should reflect in the tattoo designs they sport on various parts of their body. Following the designs/ patterns that have been on the scene for a long time, or blindly copying the tattoos of your favorite celebrities or football stars, is no longer the way. The latest trend is therefore custom design tattoos.

A custom design tattoo, as the name itself suggests, is a tattoo that you can customize to suit your personal preferences and tattoo ideas. The changes or alterations that you can effect in a design go far beyond simple color changes or its placement on your body. You can go for something that comes to mind and let the experts customize it to suit your looks. For example; you may want to have the initials of your kid/kids names incorporated into a tattoo design of your choice.

Online tattoo design sites have the option of providing one with a very original tattoo idea after asking for very few specifications from the client. Basic questions like where you want to place the tattoo, size of the area available, skin color, your main objective for getting the tattoo, whether you have any other tattoos on your body, etc. are asked. Based on this information, an experienced designer creates the best design for his/her client.

So, before you go about having a custom design tattoo, you should have some idea about the design and be very clear on what you want in a tattoo. The work thereafter becomes fairly simple. The designers that work with these sites are all individuals with a high quotient of creativity, and handpicked only after their flair in the tattoo designing field has been stringently tested. They understand exactly what the clients are looking for and can come up with an original design in a reasonably short period of time. Even though the price is a little higher than the regular ones that one gets in pattern books, they realize that clients wanting to get a custom design care more about exclusivity.

Now, you must be wondering as to how one can be sure that the design provided by the designer really suits them. Well, for every client who signs up to have a custom design tattoo, the tattoo design is not finalized until the client approves it. The rough drafts are made and are shown to the client, and are finally made only once they say a yes. So there is no chance of worrying about losing money over something you don’t like. Once the design is finalized, it is mailed to you along with a list of names and addresses of tattoo designers who will help to get it tattooed onto you.

You can choose from the various categories like tribal art, butterflies, celestial motifs, ornamental and flowery patterns etc. If you wish to inscribe a name or a word, there are a wide range of fonts to choose from. So, go ahead and get yourself a beautiful custom tattoo design that reflects who you are.

Tips for Winning Tattoo Design Contestshttp://freecooltattoo.com/tips-for-winning-tattoo-design-contests/ http://freecooltattoo.com/tips-for-winning-tattoo-design-contests/#comments Mon, 13 Feb 2012 21:35:53 +0000 cool tattoos http://freecooltattoo.com/?p=413 The popularity of tattoos is increasing every day. The industry has seen a lot of growth in the number of designers, tattoo artists and the ones who love to get their skins inked. Young, creative and talented artists have brought freshness to the tattoo designs and now one finds a wide range of tattoo themes, styles, colors and variations.

There are beautiful intricate designs, big size dragons, bright flowers, hummingbirds, and even words and phrases in different languages. One of the biggest reasons that such brilliantly creative tattoo designs and artists have shown up is the popularity of online tattoo design contests. These contests are launched by someone who wishes to have unique tattoo design made based on one’s ideas and preferences.

If you are a designer, these contests are a great platform for you to showcase your talent to the whole world and earn good money along with that. The article below discussed the top five tips for improving your chances of winning tattoo design contests.

1. Originality – The tattoo design must be original and not copyrighted by someone else. If they are duplicate and not original art work, they are disqualified immediately.

2. Size – There are different tattoos sizes based on the design and the body part where it needs to be inked. Although you may discuss the size with the client before starting to work on it, the recommended sizes are:

Large – These are sizes that are greater than six inches and less than ten inches.

Medium – This size ranges from three inches to six inches.

Small – The size of the tattoo in this range is within three inches.

3. Location – Size as well as the intricacy of design depends greatly upon the location of the tattoo. Proactively ask the client about the location and also let them know that some designs look better on certain locations than others.

Back – covers the entire back or a portion of the back.

Leg – covers the entire leg or a portion of the leg.

Arm – covers the entire arm or a portion of the arm.

Shoulder – covers the shoulder.

Neck – covers the neck.

Stomach — covers the stomach or a portion of the stomach.

Head – covers the head or a portion of the head.

Overall body – covers the entire body.

4. Design – A tattoo design may fall into different categories of designs and a designer should have a good knowledge of that as well.

Floral patterns are influenced by plants and flowers.

Animal patterns are influenced by various animals around the world.

Oriental designs are influenced by Chinese, Japanese and other Asian countries.

Dragons and mythological designs are influenced by mythological characters.

Portraits – Picture of a famous personality.

Horror designs are influenced by monsters or other terrifying characters.

Traditional and basic uncomplicated designs are also very popular.

Contemporary designs are influenced by graffiti or new artistic styles.

5. Color – There are two aspects to this. One is the different categories of colors because some tattoos have varying characteristics when it comes to their color scheme. The other aspect is the combination, number of colors as well as their intensity. Some recommendations for color classes are:

Brilliant, vibrant colors

Paler, dull, more pastel colors

Black and white only

Monochromatic

Use of color – Multiple colors up to five/ ten colors in one design or more than ten colors

Custom design tattoo contests can be a lot of fun for the participants as well as the clients who start them. As a competitor, you just need to be sure that the classes for location, size, design, color, and originality are all clearly defined. One can excel in the industry and greatly increase the prospects of winning tattoo design contests as long as they observe the above mentioned tips.

Why Get A Tattoo Designerhttp://freecooltattoo.com/why-get-a-tattoo-designer/ http://freecooltattoo.com/why-get-a-tattoo-designer/#comments Wed, 25 Jan 2012 02:01:57 +0000 cool tattoos http://freecooltattoo.com/?p=402 Tattoos have become very popular these days. Men, women, teenagers and even housewives find them attractive and are game for getting tattoos done. You will find one out of every four people sporting a single tattoo or more. While for some, it is a way to express their personality, their likes and dislikes, their affinity towards a particular lifestyle, culture or customs, there are people who don’t like tattoos at all.

There are a lot of people who are crazy for tattoos and even approve of having them but when it comes to their bodies getting tattooed, they stay away from it. There could be many reasons for this. For instance, their social environment, the industry that they work in, health reasons, cultural restrictions, and the thought that having a tattoo carved on any part of their body does not match their personality.

Sometimes, people get influenced and get tattooed without giving it a thought. The fact that the design is extremely popular and looks good on another body lures them into having one. Once the thrill of having a tattoo is over, they start regretting their decision.

Although tattoo removal is possible, the procedure is very painful and expensive. This is where the need for a talented tattoo designer comes into picture. An experienced and intelligent designer will take into consideration every small detail to make sure you are satisfied with the design. He/she will take time to choose or create a custom tattoo design that suits your taste and preferences.

So now you know why the services of an expert tattoo designer are so expensive. They usually come up with the best ideas. Apart from the designer’s fee, prices of tattoo designs also vary. It depends upon the level of difficulty, intricacy of design, size, color scheme as well as the time and skill of the artist. If you want to hire a brilliant artist, prepare to pay a good sum of money. Though the cost of custom designs is quite high, it is worth every penny since a tattoo remains etched on your skin for the rest of your life.

Tattoo designers usually have a good collection of designs. Take a close look at the details. They should show vivid colors and the design should look precise and neat. Some artists specialize in a particular genre or style. Most of the designers are flexible and can execute almost any design or style.

It is recommended that you do your own research before getting into a discussion with tattoo designers. Look for designs in books, magazines, and check online. Once you have an idea in mind, take note of it and discuss it with your designer. As you go through the selection process, be open to new ideas suggested by the designer. They know better about different skin textures, size preferences, and the techniques used by tattoo artists.

You can also find the best tattoo designers through online tattoo design contests. You can launch the contest by posting your ideas and as much details as possible to get that perfect custom tattoo. The best thing about getting custom tattoo designs through online contests is that you get a unique design according to your preferences and at competitive rates.

Tattoo Removal Methodshttp://freecooltattoo.com/tattoo-removal-methods/ http://freecooltattoo.com/tattoo-removal-methods/#comments Fri, 14 Oct 2011 02:31:50 +0000 cool tattoos http://freecooltattoo.com/?p=398 Tattoos are very easy to get. All it takes is one impulsive decision at a tattoo parlor and you are literally scarred for life. The ink will remain imprinted under your skin forever, and though it may fade as a result of time or sun exposure, the mark will never fully disappear. You are now faced with the problem of how to remove your regretful tattoo. So what is the best method of tattoo removal? Here is a list of the various methods of tattoo removal, from professional removal to home remedies.

Most Effective Methods of Tattoo Removal

  1. Laser Therapy – Lasers focus heat energy under the skin in concentrated bursts. In this process, the laser beam forces the ink particles under the skin to separate. Once the ink is extricated from the skin tissue, the body naturally expels the dead skin and the ink. The laser is able to selectively target color pigments (this would be the color of the tattoo) so that the healthy, ink-free skin tissue is minimally affected. This process can be quite painful and has a long recovery process. Laser Therapy Treatments can cost between $2000-$3000 and may require multiple treatments depending on the size, location, color scheme, and the healing process of the patient.
  2. Pulse Light Therapy – A special glass prism is set upon the skin of the tattoo and light is sent through the glass, which focuses the light energy. The light breaks up the particles in the same way it does using laser therapy but it is less painful since the process uses light beams instead of laser beams. However, there is still a lengthy healing process and it is often a painful recovery. Special gels are used to soothe the burning feeling on the treated area. The price is often greater than that of laser therapy treatments because they charge for each pulse, sometimes as much as $10/pulse in a treatment that may require many pulses depending on the size of the tattoo.

Safe Tattoo Removal Home Remedies

  1. Tattoo Removal Cream – apply daily as is instructed by the manufacturers, after tattoo fades, you can sand off the area (only the top layers of skin), make sure to use antibacterial products afterwards. These creams have a varying degree of success and often times it is dependent upon the amount of treatments done by the user and how hard they sand the area. Creams can cost between $20-$150.
  2. Laser Removal – burn the tattoo off with at-home laser removal technology; these kits are usually very inexpensive compared to the professional therapy. However, this low price also means that the therapy may not be as effective. Home Laser Tattoo Removal kits can cost anywhere between $40-$200.

DO NOT USE

  1. Salabrasion – The tattoo is removed through rubbing saltwater onto the tattoo until the area bleeds, this will leave a scar. If the tattoo has deep color tones or was done recently, this method won’t have any effect on the tattoo with the exception of mild fading and scarring around the area.
  2. Dermabrasion – The skin in the tattoo is frozen and then sanded away until the skin is completely gone. This is not only ineffective, but it is extremely painful and will cause massive scarring.
  3. Tattoo Removal Bleach – This involves rubbing bleach onto the tattoo area to burn off the skin. Bleach is extremely damaging and there’s no way to ensure that it will burn only the select area where the tattoo is. Most likely, bleaching will leave a scar on the entire area on and around the tattoo and the effectiveness of the removal is questionable at best.

Tattoo Behind Earshttp://freecooltattoo.com/tattoo-behind-ears/ http://freecooltattoo.com/tattoo-behind-ears/#comments Thu, 11 Aug 2011 16:28:23 +0000 cool tattoos http://freecooltattoo.com/?p=396

Many women are inking their bodies these days. Apart from finding the amazing and creative artwork, more women are now choosing unique body spots to ink, and behind the ear tattoos are becoming popular.  Unlike the face tattoo, you can easily cover up the ear emblem with your long hair when you don’t want to show it. If there is a concern about exposing your tattoo at the workplace or in school, this will be a good body spot to consider.

Tattoos in this area are usually small, but the designs can be very attractive. There are almost unlimited choices you can use for such a small area. You can have a feminine and cute design or tough and gothic style artwork. Some of the popular behind the ear tattoos for females are the astrological symbols, stars, birds, hearts, flowers, cartoons and butterflies. You can also consider to have someone’s name permanently attached behind your ear to signify a close relationship.

Everyone has a different pain threshold. Some people find inking an ear tattoo is tolerable and hardly bled, while others find it painful as this area has less fat padding in between the skull bone and the skin. You may feel uncomfortable when the needles hit the bone. However, it is a very short process as behind the ear tattoos only occupy a very small space.

As ear tattoos will have more exposure to sunlight, you may want to cover your design with sun block lotion to prevent the symbol from changing color or fading. Since behind the ear tattoo is highly visible when you want to show it, you should find a design which impress you or has significance to you. For women who are on top of the latest fashion and tattoo trend, you can consider dying your hair, getting your nose pierced and having your behind ear inked.

Finding a perfect ear tattoo can be very quick and easy if you search designs from Chopper Tattoo gallery. There will be unlimited high quality and nice-looking behind the ear tattoos to select.

What Exactly Are Ambigram Tattooshttp://freecooltattoo.com/what-exactly-are-ambigram-tattoos/ http://freecooltattoo.com/what-exactly-are-ambigram-tattoos/#comments Thu, 11 Aug 2011 16:19:38 +0000 cool tattoos http://freecooltattoo.com/?p=394

Tattoo lettering is a very popular design choice for tattoo enthusiasts. Names, dates, words of inspiration, strong beliefs, are just a few of the reasons for this popularity. Sometimes the lettering stands alone or it’s added to an image.

Ambigrams are tattoo lettering fonts that can be read both right side up as well as upside-down. They make for interesting tattoo lettering. Sometimes they will be the same exact word or name when read in either direction. The more complicated ambigram designs spell different words depending on which direction they are being read. When the word is identical, the design is referred to as a symmetrical ambigram. Designs with 2 different words are, as you can probably guess, called asymmetrical ambigrams.

The field of ambigram tattoos only emerged as a popular tattoo design choice back around 2004 or so, but its popularity has risen quickly and ambigrams are now a trendy design choice. Some tattoo artists specialize in creating custom ambigram tattoo designs from words or names supplied by the customer.

The impact of an ambigram is stronger when it is a short phrase or a single word. Although it’s possible to set up 3-6 word phrases in an ambigram tattoo, it doesn’t have the same visual appeal as a single short word. For an ambigram to have the most bang, it has to be easy to discern the word in either direction which means the font size has to be large enough so a person can easily make out the word. If you want multiple words to create a long phrase, you’ll have to keep the font size smaller. Discerning the words both ways will be much more difficult because of the number of letters in addition to the smaller font size.

The best way to match up a good design for an asymmetrical ambigram is to stick with two words or names that contain the same number of letters. If possible, stay away from the most difficult letters for an ambigram design. The difficult letters are Q, U, W, V, and the letter Z.

Where Do I Get an Ambigram Design?

Ambigrams can be designed for a tattoo stencil in one of three ways. You can find tattoo flash art that already has the artwork laid out and ready for stencil work. This artwork will usually consist of popular phrases and words in a variety of font styles. A search on the internet will help you to find web sites that sell ambigrams like this.

You can also hire a gifted artist who has a talent for lettering and, especially, a gift for ambigrams.

The third way is to find an auto-generator on the internet. You can find web sites with software that allows you to plug in your word or two, and it will generate your ambigram. You have more limitations with the auto generated type of ambigram but if the phrase or phrases are simple enough, this method can work for you.

Tattoo Regretshttp://freecooltattoo.com/tattoo-regrets/ http://freecooltattoo.com/tattoo-regrets/#comments Wed, 27 Jul 2011 03:19:50 +0000 cool tattoos http://freecooltattoo.com/?p=392

It’s one of the worst scenarios isn’t it? You’ve gone out with your pals, had a great time partying, and you’ve decided to seal the occasion by all going to a local tattoo parlour and having some incredibly ill thought out scribble tattooed on your arms.

Sounded like fun at the time didn’t it? Now your stuck with it, having to look at it or the rest of your life, trying to cover it up, or thinking about expensive laser removal options.

There are a multitude of factors that may lead to tattoo regrets. You may be in the wrong frame of mind at the wrong time of your life. Maybe you’ve got outside factors influencing you (such as a boyfriend/girlfriend convincing you that it’s a good idea). Or maybe you’re just ill-informed.

IT DOESN’T HAVE TO BE THIS WAY.

Deciding on a tattoo, whether it’s your first, second or tenth down the line, should be an intensely personal experience with the end result being a feeling of joy and pride of your newly acquired artwork. Gone are the days of walking into a tattoo parlour and just picking something off the wall, then wishing you hadn’t once the ink has dried.

Here’s some factors to consider during the process of choosing a tattoo.

1. What style do you want?

Tribal, Japanese, portrait, Aztec, old school etc. There’s a lot to choose from. You may want to add to it later. Better to pick a one style rather an a mishmash of different ones.

2. How big do you want it?

Intricate tattoos do not necessarily work with smaller designs as you can’t see it properly. If you want art with a lot going on in it it’s best to go bigger. One mistake most people make (including me) is to start off with a very small design only to be unhappy with the size later and go bigger by adding other designs around it.

3. Where do you want it?

This is very important as you may want to keep it hidden for work purposes or whatnot. A tattoo on the neck might look cool now but you will have trouble hiding it if you need to later. Upper arms and torso’s work best as you can cover with clothes!

4. Which tattoo artist?

The world is your oyster. There are plenty of artists local to you, just do some internet research. Most have an online portfolio of some kind. Pick the best you can within reason. Money shouldn’t be a factor with a decision as important as this. If you can’t afford it, wait and save up.

There are many more considerations but these I consider the most important. There are more and more online tattoo galleries appearing on the internet every year. You have the world of tattoo designs at your fingertips.

Do your research, find what you really want, and go to the tattoo artist that you really want. Don’t just get any old tattoo on a whim. I guarantee there’s a high chance you wont be completely happy with it.

Banish tattoo regrets forever.

Are you struggling to decide what tattoo to get? Or whether to get one at all? Don’t regret it!

I have collected many tattoos over the years and would like to help you with the benefits of my experience.

Do Not Ask A Tattooist 10 Thingshttp://freecooltattoo.com/do-not-ask-a-tattooist-10-things/ http://freecooltattoo.com/do-not-ask-a-tattooist-10-things/#comments Fri, 03 Jun 2011 01:18:39 +0000 cool tattoos http://freecooltattoo.com/?p=389

As a new tattooist but an older collector of tattoos I have already come across some strange and worrying questions (not in a bad way – in a terribly funny way). So I asked some tattooists and put together a list of funny questions people asked about tattoo’s. If you have asked one of these questions think about it next time – before you ask! So here goes, this is just for fun!

1. What do you think I should get?

Don’t leave this decision to a complete stranger – the tattoo should be about you not someone else! You could walk out with a joint smoking devil skull, or a Bugs Bunny tattoo. Is that something you could live with for the rest of your life? If not go home and have a think about what you would like first.

2. How long do they last for?

Duh! they last forever (unless you get laser removal). Although they may fade overtime generally the tattoo will be with you for life. A real tattoo is not something you can wash off after a week, so make sure you choose your design carefully and try not to be lead by fashion, because fashion as they say is fickle and what comes into fashion can very quickly fade out of fashion unlike tattoos

3. Can you cover this tattoo up with something smaller?

You do the maths this just doesn’t work. You will be surprised how many people ask this.

4. Have you got a space to fit me in now? I’m not sure what I want or where I want it but how much will it be and how long will it take?

Hmm may not be the best way to ask for a tattoo – I suggest you do some more research before entering a tattoo shop. Tattooists generally are professionals that have trained for years to hone their skills. Please treat them with respect as you would any other professional trades-person.

5. Can i have my wedding vows spiraling around my wedding finger?

Unless you wedding vows are just “I do”, do you really think they will fit on such a small space. The tattoo needles may be small but you may be asking a bit much.

6. What can I get for ten dollars?

This is one time in your life when it pays not to be cheap. When it comes to tattoos you get what you pay for in my opinion a top artist can charge anything up to $350 per hour and a tattoo can take – well as long as it takes, it depends on the size and the coverage. The better the tattooist, the higher the price (generally). But remember it will be with you for life and it is an investment in yourself that will never go away.

7. Yeah I want this sorta erm… it’s hard to describe… I’ve got pictures at home… probably should have brought them…

Your regular tattooist is not psychic. It’s best to bring more information rather than none at all.

8. I only want it in black because coloured ink hurts more.

You are joking right! It is all the same no matter what colour ink you choose.

9. Can I pay you in a month?

More often than not the answer will be no so don’t ask. This is definately a case of get now pay later – remember tattooist are regular people too that have bills to pay too.

10. You mean the needle actually breaks the skin?

Ah – Yes! That’s why they are called needles. The needle must puncture the skin so the ink can be deposited under the skin so it will remain with you until the end of time…

If you’ve ever wanted to create an amazing tattoo that’s unique to you, then this might be the most important page you ever read (anywhere)… You see, recently, there’s been an amazing breakthrough in what I call “Tattoo Technology”, where you can actually design your very own tattoo in 3 minutes flat, print it out and give it to your tattooist quickly and easily.
